About Us

The original was set up in October 2011 by two movie nuts, Páraic McGeough and Nigel Wheatley, who at the time, were living in Dublin and Toronto respectively.

In December 2012 with both members of the union now living on Irish soil, was magically transformed into The site then began to focus on cinema from a uniquely Irish perspective and bring readers the news, reviews and features for the films that matter. Nowadays we’re mostly publishing a monthly podcast with occasional Irish film festival coverage, Best Ofs, and film reviews.

First film I saw in the cinema that I can remember: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – age 4 in a cinema up north while we were on our summer holidays and Mum used her cigarette lighter to figure out the flavour of the crisps we’d smuggled in.
First film I saw in Monaghan cinema when it opened: Hook – my brother Stephen took me and his fingers turned yellow from the cheap popcorn.
First film I saw that I was far too young to be watching: Scum – Watched while I was off sick from school. The Hitcher also falls into this category.

First film I saw in the cinema: Tim Burton’s Batman (1989). It was dark and I think I just slept on the sticky floor.
First VHS I saw: Honey I Shrunk the Kids (1989). Took a lot of fiddling with the tracking button though.
First film I saw that I was far too young to be watching: The Hand That Rocks the Cradle – what? I was only 9 it was creepy!
