Spooool-favourite Michael Fassbender has just been announced as the star and co-producer of the upcoming adaptation of the ridiculously popular Assassin’s Creed video game series.
“Michael Fassbender was our first choice” to play the franchise’s iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”
No shit Sherlock. Don’t you love how impersonal press releases about actors can be? Wouldn’t it have been better to read that Jean-Julien Baronnet thinks Fassbender is “a big ride and a deadly actor”.
There is no director or script attached to the project right now but with the game series spending time in the modern day and zipping back to the Crusades, Renaissance and the American Revolution, you would hope that they’ll work out an intelligent way to tie it all together. Slash Film speculates that Fassbender is likely to play Miles and whoever his ancestral alter-egos are.
Fassbender is co-producing the project with Conor McCaughan, they previously worked together on the BAFTA-winning short film Pitch Black Heist. View the trailer below and click here to view a two minute clip.
Aside from the Assassin’s Creed project, the Fass is also currently filming Twelve Years a Slave, his third-collaboration with Steve McQueen and Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Counsellor. A busy man.
