1. Web Summit 2014. Done and dusted

web summit 2014

This year Paddy Cosgrave’s tech conference opened up the doors a little wider and let in some illustrious faces from the world of film, sport and music. Including me (Nigel). But after three days, 22,000 attendees, 614 speakers, 1324 journalists and press, 700 investors and 82,000 cups of coffee Web Summit 2014 has come to a close.

One of the highlights of the first day’s proceedings was a talk by Tim Webber (the visual effects guru behind Gravity, Avatar and Harry Potter) and John Underkoffler (Minority Report). It’s a great talk which will expand your mind a bit, watch the whole thing on youtube.

There was also a film stage at the Web Summit this year which saw screenings of The Imitation Game and Clare Lewins’ I Am Ali. These took place in the lovely Cinemobile which people will be most familiar with from its showings at Galway Film Fleadh.

Another highlight was producer Dana Brunetti who was involved with The Social Network and “House of Cards” who had plenty to say on the current method of cinema-going, believing that Netflix and other streaming options will soon rule the system!
