TAKE TWO: Brown Bag @ Galway Fleadh, Kubrick Posters and more

1) Brown Bag Shorts To Screen at Galway Film Fleadh

Now we are of course talking about film shorts and not the Bermuda type items of clothing. Although perhaps the weather will be nice and you’ll get to see both from the folks at Brown Bag films.

Yes the Galway Film Fleadh will be screening not one but two shorts at this year’s festival. An Ode To Love concerning a man on a desert island falling in love with a stick and The Story Will Be Revealed In The Movie will feature in Galway’s shorts programme. TSWBRITM is also Brown Bag’s third collaboration with the children of Fighting Words.

So two more reasons to get pumped for Galway.

Here’s our piece on the Brown Bag appreciation from last year’s festival.

2) Tomer Hanuka’s Stanley Kubrick Poster Series

2001

Over on Juxtapoz, you can see Tomer Hanuka’s pretty nifty series of Stanley Kubrick posters. My favourite is definitely 2001: A Space Odyssey. Shout out to Niall Sheerin for the heads up on this one!

3) Annie Atkins with Anne Enright – “Something To Write Home About”

Happening next Thursday the 25th of June in Dublin’s Science Gallery is a talk chaired by journalist Sinead Gleeson called “Something To Write Home About”. In conversation with Sinead will be Anne Enright and Annie Atkins.

In 2007 Anne Enright won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction for her novel, The Gathering. This year, she was announced as Laureate for Irish Fiction. A specialist in graphics, Annie Atkins, will speak about her approach to creating fictional homes in film such as Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Tickets are €5 and can be bought here and props to Ronan Smith for the heads up.

Páraic wanted to be a gangster as far back as he can remember. Brought up on a diet of films he was too young to be watching by his brothers, all things 80s teens thanks to his sisters and the classics by his folks he's turned into a well-rounded (maybe a little too round) film lover. Only recently discovering North by Northwest, he longs for a train journey with a beautiful blond.
