kinopolis

It’s the 10th Polish film festival at the IFI this weekend. The festival boasts something for everyone with a comprehensive line up.

Opening this year’s festival is an Irish co-production 11 Minutes, the new film from Jerzy Skolimowski (Essential Killing), which follows a group of characters. Then there is Karbala, the true story of Polish soldiers caught under fire in Iraq. Małgorzata Szumowska’s film Body/Ciało, one of the major prize-winners at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, will close the festival.

The Irish feature film Mammal – starring Rachel Griffiths (‘Six Feet Under’, Muriel’s Wedding) and Irish star Barry Keoghan (‘Love/Hate’, ’71), and directed by Irish filmmaker Rebecca Daly – will have its world premiere in the World Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival next month.

The Irish co-produced documentary The Land of the Enlightened will also have its world premiere at the festival in the International Documentary strand. Both films will be distributed by Wildcard Distribution and are set for Irish cinema releases in 2016.

Pieter-Jan De Pue’s documentary The Land of the Enlightened was produced by Irish producer Morgan Bushe and charts the complex Afghani war economy told through the eyes of the children who have found themselves caught up in the on-going American occupation.

4) Another look at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman-v-Superman-Dawn-of-Justice

Affleck v Cavill, Clark Kent v Bruce Wayne, Batman v Superman oh and the Facebook guy is there too as Lex Luthor.

We’ll get to see this in March of next year.

5) I Saw The Light Trailer

i saw the light

This looks like a very generic biopic ala Ray or Walk The Line but Tom Hiddleston seems to be able to do a good Hank Williams. Have a look for yourself.

Brought up on a diet of films he was too young to be watching by his brothers, all things 80s teens thanks to his sisters and the classics by his folks he's turned into a well-rounded (maybe a little too round) film lover. Only recently discovering North by Northwest, he longs for a train journey with a beautiful blond.
