Five things we learned this week – June 7th 2013

1) Burton and Taylor?

OK so technically this is going to be a project for TV but so was Behind the Candelabra and we covered that, so allow us for a moment to delve into the murky world of the small screen. Below is an image of Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter who will play the roles of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, the original Kurt and Courtney, Brad and Angelina, Amy and Blake. Read more here and keep an eye on BBC4 for the film.

Richard Burton starred in The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, a film based on a John leCarre novel. Above is the new trailer for the latest LeCarre adaptation.

4) The Questionaire

I lost an hour a few nights back on YouTube watching some Inside the Actors Studio hosted by James Lipton (of the Lipton Tea fame). The best part is when he asks them a questionnaire originated by French television personality Bernard Pivot on his show “Apostrophes”. The ten questions Lipton asks are:

  1. What is your favourite word?
  2. What is your least favourite word?
  3. What turns you on?
  4. What turns you off?
  5. What sound or noise do you love?
  6. What sound or noise do you hate?
  7. What is your favourite curse word?
  8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
  9. What profession would you not like to do?
  10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

Here’s a video of some of the best answers. A favourite has to be Al Pacino’s answer to “What turns you on?” – Everything. Hoo ah!

5) John Ford Film Symposium

It’s that time of year again when John Ford Ireland put together a series of talks and films about the great man himself. You can read all about it here and below is a clip of Peter Bogdanavich trying to interview Ford.

Páraic

Páraic wanted to be a gangster as far back as he can remember. Brought up on a diet of films he was too young to be watching by his brothers, all things 80s teens thanks to his sisters and the classics by his folks he's turned into a well-rounded (maybe a little too round) film lover. Only recently discovering North by Northwest, he longs for a train journey with a beautiful blond.
