Five things we learned this week – June 14th 2013

1) LBGT at the IFI

Dublin Pride 2013 starts next Friday and to coincide the IFI is showing not one, but two documentaries. Where I Am tells the harrowing story of Robert Drake’s attack in Sligo which left him permanently brain damaged and Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride follows Ken Coolen as he travels the world looking at countries’ pride parades. Info and ticket booking here

2) Xtravision update

Hilco Capital Ireland has bought Xtravision, hurrah! Who you say? Hilco Capital are the company who recently bought up HMV and they may be playing a real life version of Monopoly, keep your eyes on the Bord Gais Energy Theatre! Fingers crossed most of the jobs can be kept and there aren’t too many more store closures, read more about the situation here

3) The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer

I like the nod to Star Wars’s Admiral Ackbar “It’s a trap”

4) Diana Trailer

Do you remember where you were when you saw the Diana trailer? Smart move not having her speak, the suspense. Maybe it’s all in French.

5) Foil Arms and Hog: Cinema Food

The following two tabs change content below.

Páraic wanted to be a gangster as far back as he can remember. Brought up on a diet of films he was too young to be watching by his brothers, all things 80s teens thanks to his sisters and the classics by his folks he's turned into a well-rounded (maybe a little too round) film lover. Only recently discovering North by Northwest, he longs for a train journey with a beautiful blond.
