Christian Blauvelt is deputy editor of BBC Culture and has put together a great slideshow of films that broke taboos such as swearing, interracial kisses, naked men, women and toilet flushing.

Such nuggets as “Joseph Strick’s adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses in 1967 is the leading contender for the first film in which the f-word is spoken, though it was mouthed silently in the action film Sink the Bismarck! in 1960” so give it a look as it will one day come in handy for a table quiz!
